Making a Plan for Surviving Mother’s Day Without Mom

Posted by

Mother’s Day stirs up so many kinds of emotions. I wrote this a few years ago. I thought it might help some of my readers and friends, so I’m reposting. The plan sounds good for this year too, except for the last paragraph. I can’t make that happen anymore, and that adds another level of grief. But I know God will give grace, even through the tears…

Maybe your Mom is still with you this year, but you are still grieving because she doesn’t know you anymore or because she’s changed so much. I understand that, too. Alzheimer’s is a hard journey. Whatever your Mother’s Day looks like this year, I hope you know Jesus and the comfort that God gives and sense His deep and never ending love for you.

Sending love to you all. May God bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you this Mother’s Day!

  1. My Mom had Alzheimer’s too. She passed away last year so this is my first Mother’s Day without her here on Earth and it makes me sad. But I keep her memory in my heart and know that she is here with me as I struggle through this day. The first of each holiday without her has been difficult, but this one seems the hardest. I just want to hug my Mom and be hugged by her. But it will happen spiritually and not physically. Sending you a heartfelt hug too.

    1. May God give you comfort and grace as you get through all the firsts. Mother’s Day is one of the hardest. Wish I could give you a hug. God bless you!

  2. May God bless you today and always. Thank you for your heartfelt writings and feelings to myself and all affected by Alzheimer’s. My father who was 93 passed in January. I miss him so much but have no regrets as to the time I got to spend with him. My mother is 90 and is showing some memory issues and decline since his passing.

May you gave a blessed day and thank you again for sharing your thoughts and feelings. I so look forward to them all.

    Blessings, Lisa

    1. Thank you for your kind encouragement, Lisa. I’m so so sorry about your father passing, but thankful to hear you have no regrets about the time you spent with him. May God bless and give you grace and strength as you spend time with your mother.

      Blessings to you also, Cheryl
