Leaning Into the Son

Posted by

I walked into my home office this morning and found the hyacinth a friend had recently given me was falling over. I added some water and propped it up on the handle of my devotional basket.

The directions say I need to keep the vase 75% full with water at all times. And I need to turn the plant one-quarter everyday so it will grow evenly and not lean toward the sun.

And I think there is a lesson here. Plants and flowers were created to lean toward the sun. God made them that way.

And we were created to lean toward the Son. But unlike these hyacinths, our growth will improve, and we will be more stable and healthy, the more that we keep our face turned toward Him.

Life will tend to distract us and turn us away from focusing on Jesus. But the more we lean into Him, the stronger we will be.

And we never need to run dry either. He freely gives from the fountain of the water of life.

So I pray today that I will lean hard and faithfully into His light. That I will bask in the warmth of His love and peace. And that I will drink deeply from His well of life.

“But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again. In fact, the water I give him will become a well of water springing up in him for eternal life.” John 4:14 (Christian Standard Version)
